O2 and EE have become the first UK network operators to offer 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity on the Eurostar between England and France. EE completed the network installation late September, whilst O2’s went live in November.
The news follows an agreement signed between O2, Vodafone, EE, French operators Orange, SFR and Bouygues, Channel Tunnel owners EuroGroup and infrastructure provider Alcatel-Lucent to bring calls, texts and data to customers travelling below the English Channel.
All operators are understood to have invested £2 million each to bring connectivity through the 23.5 mile North running tunnel.
Foxconn has answered Apple’s call for an increase in capacity by committing to building a huge display production plant in Taiwan that will be used solely to supply the company with units.
The firm will reportedly spend £1.66 billion during the next couple of years and build a complex that should be manufacturing as soon as Q1 2015.
Innolux Corp, Foxconn’s display unit, will build the sixth-generation plant at its Kaohsiung Science Park campus in Taiwan, creating 2,300 jobs.
Although Foxconn already have a number of factories in Mainland China to assemble iPhones and iPads, this is the first such location purely dedicated to individual components inside Apple’s devices.
PC Shipments grew nearly 23% in the third quarter of 2014 in mature Western Europe. 23.7 million units were shipped across EMEA, which was a 10.4% increase year-on-year.
Global Tablet growth will increase by 11% this year. This is a drop from 55% for the previous year. Experts believe that the slowdown is due to the popularity of big-screen smartphones and ‘phablets’ and also a slower refresh rate for Tablets. There will be a total of 2.4 billion units of Tablets & Smartphones sold this year, up 3.2%.
